The program for the event started at 9:00am on May 14, 2023 by members converging at Kenyatta National Hospital [KNH] to start the day with a Holy Mass at the Chapel in the Hospital. At 9:15am, our representatives met with Fr. John Kariba, the chaplaincy at Kenyatta National Hospital who welcomed the group. Father Kariba informed us that Sr. Theresia will be in-charge of our program after Mass. At exactly 9:30 am, the Mass started where we had high number of our members participating. Mass Intentions read by the Priest were about the sick, those with sick family members, those who take care of the sick and also those who visit the sick. He acknowledged our presence as visitors from St Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy Alumni and also welcomed us to Kenyatta National Hospital.

After the Mass, we had a meeting with Sr. Theresia who gave us a history of the work they do as the Chaplaincy to support the hospital in caring for the sick. Most of their work involves supporting some cases that are desperate, for example some people may be in a position not able to meet hospital bill expenses, NHIF contributions, and/or some special care like Wheelchairs and some tests. She told us that they rely on well-wishers to contribute or offer donations. She said our choice for KNH was very welcomed.

VISIT TO WARDS

We visited ward 3D which has children with Cancer. Sr Theresia helped us to group ourselves into six and meeting with the sick children, talk to them, encourage them and also listen to their touching stories. At 1 pm we assembled outside the chapel on the 2nd floor to share experiences and praying together. At around 1:30pm we finalized our event and took a group photo.

ATTENDANCE

Total number of members present was 20 and contributions were made by 80 members. This was commendable since they helped in various activities.  Our donation was given in monetary form by our Treasurer sending Ksh 44,200 to Sr. Theresia on behalf of KNH Chaplaincy.
