Every year, the TUK YCS usually make a pilgrimage to the Subukia shrine also known as the village of Mary situated in Nakuru county. A pilgrimage is a journey and is of vital importance to Christian lives. It takes them through life and most importantly through the journey of salvation. A committee was constituted to plan for invent, on transport and food
The weather was chilly that morning of 12th November 2022 and students assembled in school by 6am.We prayed the Angelus and then waited for the rest of the students to arrive and by 6.30am, the number had grown considerably and preparations to leave for Nakuru had started.
We left Nairobi at 6.45 am. We travelled in the 67seater bus and therefore proceeded on the 3 hours journey and made a stopover tea at Nakuru town. During the 3 hours, we prayed the holy rosary and sang songs of praises and worship to Our Lord Jesus Christ. After 30 minutes of break we resumed on the journey that took us another 2 hours to arrive at Subukia National Shrine during which we prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and sung further.
After the arrival we were taken through the History of the place and the procedure of how we were to conduct our pilgrimage. After 30 minutes of active listening we started the way of light where we prayed the joyful mysteries of the rosary. We passed through the Grotto part where we had time to pray to Mother Mary. We then proceeded on to the way of the cross where we all participated with faith and zeal. When we had finished the way of the cross, we arrived at the place of the holy water where students fetched the water in their various containers and also prayed at the foot of our mother Mary where the water was coming forth from then we proceeded to the shrine.
Though students were tired, the journey downhill was not much a big deal because they were feeling blessed and were eagerly waiting for the graces the holy mass would offer them. They were simply happy. Our choir sang so sweetly during the mass which took the shortest time possible because we still had a long journey back. It was at this time after the holy mass that we had a photo session and then embarked on the journey back to Nairobi. During the journey back, a late lunch was served in the bus and after four hours of travelling, we arrived in Nairobi at 9pm
