Auxiliary Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe has dedicated his life to the service of the Catholic Church, particularly within the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Early Life and Education
Born on May 4, 1962, in Gatundu, Kiambu County, Kenya, Simon Peter Kamomoe is the fifth of eleven children of the late Mr. Michael Kamomoe and Scholastica Gathoni. He began his education at Muthiga Primary School and proceeded to Ituru High School for his O-levels. In 1984, he joined Queen of Apostles Junior Seminary, marking the start of his spiritual formation. His journey continued at St. Mary's Seminary in Molo for his spiritual year in 1986, followed by philosophical studies at St. Augustine Seminary in Mabanga (1987-1988) and theological studies at St. Matthias Mulumba Seminary in Tindinyo (1989-1992).
Priestly Ministry
Ordained as a deacon in 1992 at St. Matthias Mulumba Tindinyo, Kamomoe was ordained a priest by the Servant of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga on June 18, 1994. His early assignments included serving as an assistant priest at Queen of Apostles Seminary and Parish. He later ministered in various parishes, including Thigio, Mang'u, Ndundu, and St. Matthias Mulumba Parish in Thika. From 1998 to 1999, he was the priest in charge of Our Lady of Fatima Kiriko Parish, followed by his role as the priest in charge of Kiambu Parish in 1999. In 2008, he was appointed Administrator of the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi, a position he held until his episcopal appointment.
Academic Pursuits
Demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional growth, Kamomoe earned a Bachelor of Counselling Psychology from the University of Nairobi (2005-2008), a Master's in Psychology from Tangaza University College (2013-2015), and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselling Psychology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (2016-2021). His academic endeavors have significantly contributed to his pastoral work, particularly in family ministry.
Contributions to Family Ministry
As the Chaplain in the Family Life Department, Kamomoe has been passionate about promoting family values. He has authored several books aimed at strengthening family relationships, including "Marriage through a Priestly Eye," "Mothers-in-law and Daughters-in-law," and "Root Causes and Solutions to Conflict." These works reflect his deep understanding of family dynamics and his commitment to providing guidance to families within the church community.
Episcopal Appointment
On February 13, 2024, Pope Francis appointed Rev. Dr. Simon Peter Kamomoe as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, assigning him the titular see of Thubunae in Numidia. He was consecrated as a bishop on April 6, 2024, at St. Mary's Msongari grounds in Nairobi. In his role as Auxiliary Bishop, Kamomoe continues to support the Archdiocese's mission, bringing his extensive pastoral experience and academic expertise to his episcopal ministry
