On 26th May 2023, The Technical University of Kenya Young Christian Students hosted the Zone F Night Vigil event at the Main Hall. 5 institutions attended the Vigil with 130 members. The Institutions include the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, Kenya Medical Training Institute, Railway Training Institute, Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology, and the Technical University of Kenya.
The Night Vigil began with early preparations of the Main Hall Venue from 6:30 pm through setting up the stage and arranging seats. The following event that kicked off the program of the Vigil was the Recitation of the Holy Rosary before ushering in the Holy Mass at 9 pm. Father Didmus Shirima led the Holy Mass HHoly mass, which was celHolHoljjjjjjjfrom the Jesuit Congregation.
One of the most outstanding teachings from Homily is "Believe in order to understand" he encouraged us to think whenever judging actions done by others. There was a significant break from 11 pm for the students to take their supper. The rest of the vigil program continued as scheduled.
One of the most influential parts of the Vigil was the Theme Talk about the Holy Eucharist in the church by Sister Mildred. Students were grouped into five groups to discuss the liturgical questions about Holy Eucharist. It was a successful talk. Other activities included in the Vigil are Bible Trivia and entertainment items presented by each institution.
The Night Vigil event ended at 6:30 am with closing remarks from the Zone F moderator, Immaculate Wanjira. After our final prayer, students were allowed to leave while others remained to wait for the breakfast to be ready. It was a remarkable Night Vigil experience this year as the organization for this event was well planned.
A Night Vigil is a prayer, reflection, and worship period that occurs during the night, usually preceding a significant feast day or a special occasion in the Catholic Church. It involves spending the night in prayerful vigilance, often in a church or chapel. It includes various liturgical elements, such as the recitation of the Rosary, Scripture readings, hymns, psalms, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
A night vigil is usually organized with many intentions. A night vigil provides a dedicated time and space to connect with God on a deeper level. Through prayer, meditation, and contemplation, we can open our hearts to God's presence, seek His guidance, and experience a sense of spiritual renewal. Engaging in a Night Vigil allows us to immerse ourselves in the rich traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the mysteries of our faith, deepen our understanding of Scripture, and strengthen our belief in God's love and mercy.
During a Night Vigil, Catholics often have the chance to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). This sacrament allows us to confess our sins, receive God's forgiveness, and experience the healing grace of reconciliation. It offers a powerful means to grow closer to God and live more righteous lives.
Night Vigils often bring together members of the Catholic community, fostering a sense of unity and fellowship. Praying together, sharing in the liturgy, and supporting one another spiritually can enhance our understanding of belonging and encourage us on our spiritual journey.
