THE T.U.K YCS CHAPLAIN, REV.FR.PROF NDIKARU WA TERESIA THANKSGIVING MASS CELEBRATION ON 19TH APRIL 2023 AT THE MAIN CANTEEN AT 4.00PM
t all started with an invitation from the Rev.Fr.Prof.Ndikaru, who joyously welcomed the T.U.K YCS alumni, staff, the YCS fraternity and all willing to attend the event to ecstatically push the boat out together in the thanks giving mass on his promotion as an Associate Professor in the department of Government on Legal Studies. Those invited started making their way to the main canteen some minutes before 4.00pm with other YCSers arranging and embellishing the venue with balloons as the liturgy team took their part in mass preparation.
At 4.00pm the priest made his way in and soon the holy mass celebration kicked off. The choir chanted melodious Easter songs as the priest and altar servers made their procession to the altar. The congregants joined in the moods of the epoch. Afterwards as per order of the mass, one of the student sauntered towards the pulpit to proclaim the bible readings of the day which were taken from the Acts 5:17-26 as the first reading and Psalms 34:2-3,4-5,6-7,8-9 as the
responsorial psalm .The priest proclaimed the gospel from John 3:16-21 and started giving out the homily. In his homily he started thanking God for his promotion. We did not lag behind too “It has been your prayers and support that I have made this faR”, he told the congregants. He gave out his reflection on the gospel that we the young generation we should opt to be in the light rather in the darkness since whoever lives the truth comes to the light so that his works may clearly seen as done in God .He also added that many people prefer being in the darkness because of their evil works. He also reminded us about the last Sunday gospel (John 20:19-31) on doubting Thomas which lays the foundation in our Christian faith. Reflecting on Easter gospel he encouraged us to follow the good example of Mary Magdalene who was always determined in following Christ despite any obstacle she might encounter. He encouraged us
though of many challenges we face in our studies, in our work areas we need to place God first.
After the homily the priest narrated to us his journey as an associate professor especially the toughness during the interview to be granted the promotion. In his areas of professional growth and productivity, he said that his activities over the past years have included pursuing PHD in criminology (Kenyatta University), M.A in disaster management (University of Nairobi) and B.A from Urbaniana Pontifical University in Rome-Italy besides his journey as a priest, research, presentations and book publications .He commented on his commitment he has demonstrated to actively serving the students and the university at large .Above all he thanked God for the far ,and finalized by encouraging us that whether married or not you can be promoted in any position so long as you are determined. Later the holy mass proceeded as usual with the liturgy of the Eucharist. Before the final blessings the priest invited the alumni present to share to us their life experience. The alumni first congratulated the priest for his promotion and his commitment he has for the students, the YCS and the country at large in his service. The alumnus stating that, though it was not easy for the long journey the priest took as associate professor, it is a challenge to us. They shared to us their life experience during their university life especially in the YCS. They also shared their life after the Campus. In all, the students thanked the chaplain for his hard work and passion that he showed in his profession.
